    About

Whether this is your first visit to Diabetes Wise, or you're a regular reader, welcome!

Diabetes Wise is a blog intended to share stories and experiences of living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Inspired by the many other Diabetes Bloggers out there, I began this site in January 2006, with the hope that it would provide an outlet for my frustrations and bring me into a community of like minded individuals who understand exactly where I am coming from. However, this isn't an exclusive club just for people who have diabetes themselves. I hope it is of value to everyone who knows someone with diabetes, and anyone who simply wants to get a picture of what life is like with diabetes along for the ride.

Please don't be shy about giving me feedback , through comments or email. Although writing and publishing alone is cathartic for me, I get a huge amount more out of this blog when people join in, and hopefully by interacting you will derive more too. It isn't necessary to leave a name, email or web address to leave a comment, so dive right in.

Remember that nothing here is intended to constitute or replace professional medical advice. In over twenty years with diabetes and more than five years of pumping insulin I've developed a number of personal strategies and shortcuts. Though I may sometimes share these in my writing, you should always seek the advice of your own health care team regarding your own medical care.

    About Caro
I'm 27 years old and live in London, England.

I'm many things. I'm a daughter, a sister, a grandaughter, a neice and a friend. Although I've had plenty of experience of being alone, right now I'm totally in love and very much loved in return. I'm also a dentist. I understand if you hate what I do, but know not to take it personally!

I love the smell of fresh baked bread and the colours in a beautiful sunset. I love the sound of waves on the seashore and the feel of wet sand between my toes. I like to be the first person to walk through freshly fallen snow and I love to kick through the fallen autumn leaves. I'll only eat cheese if it's cooked and have a minor obsession with giraffes. Sometimes I want nothing more than to curl up on the sofa in a warm jumper with a big mug of tea. I like the simple things, and seek the best in life, living for today, but always excited about the next big thing.

I also happen to have some health issues. I have had type 1 diabetes for 24 years and have worn an insulin pump for over five years. I have epilepsy, diagnosed when I was 21 and Addison's Disease, diagnosed last year at the age of 26. These things are a small, but nonetheless important, part of who I am.

Which is, I guess, why I'm here.

Cool blog. I like how you describe yourself. I think I'll take a clue from you and change the profile on my blog. Thanks!

Thanks Sherril. I'm pleased to have inspired you!

    Hi,
I came to this page after discovering your blog and noticing that you mentioned not upping your steroids. My husband has APECED which means he has hypoparathyroidism (diagnosed at 18 months), Addison's disease (dx at 12 years), Type 1 diabetes (dx at 14 years) and pernicious aneamia (dx at around 18 years). Just thought I'd drop you a note cause i always love meeting people who understand the unique challenges of managing Addisons when you have diabetes (and vice versa!).
I've added your blog to my list of blogs to check so I'm sure you'll see me around! :-)
    Liz
